about
Himinioðurr was primarily inspired by the wind and the sky. It was written on a blustery day as a means of escape, and a way to calm the soul. Starting life as a minimalist piano piece, Horizon was written and designed to leave space for the listener to hear details in the world around them, in turn changing the context of the track.
As the track developed, strings, low-key beats, and points of intrigue & fascination were added; giving the listener something new to find within the song on every repeat. Finally, and somewhat by chance, words were paired with the music. Supplied by Intaka's poet friend Graybyname. His spoken words forming an alternative shipping forecast; playfully subverting the concepts of forecasting by updating the listener on slow moving geological changes. In the final version of the track, skyward music and grounded lyrics meet at the horizon line.
lyrics
Words by Graybyname:
Limestone now, rhyolite later.
Good.
Metamorphic giving way to igneous intrusions in the west north west - uncertain.
Porphyritic now, sand later.
Chance of isolated pockets of slate - fair.
Carboniferous, Silurian, Quaternary turning Ordovician - Cambria. Subducting in the east, giving way to mantle by dawn.
Outlook for all areas west of Old Red Sandstone; fair turning Quartzite later.
Crust, clastic, sill; intrusive - fair to good.
All areas experiencing superposition by dawn, schist later
Granite, gabbro, Garnet - good.

northern words and dialects. He is not loyal to one genre, rather he seeks the sonic pallets that best convey vibrant natural imagery, immersive ideas, and the harsh beautiful landscapes of the north lakes from which he draws effervescent inspiration....more
